Spring is in the air

27 Feb

This weekend, I discovered the area around the prefectural art museum. There’s a sort of tree garden on a hill, littered with statues.
There was a light drizzle of rain, and the air was heavy with the smell of pine trees.
Recently, the weather has turned relatively warm. Spring is in the air, and my sneezes have announced its arrival.

(Some of these photos come across as too moody.)

My favorite sign

26 Feb

This is my favorite sign in town.

I like it even though it’s for a seedy gambling place. (Or maybe that’s a part of its charm!)

Night scenes

25 Feb

Oh, summer nights.
How I miss you!

(I’m sure I won’t be quite so enthusiast in July, but for now…)

Escape!

24 Feb

I was soaking some clams for my dinner, and a couple of them tried to escape!

Man, oh man, were they tasty!

Wandering in Yui-cho

20 Feb

This weekend, I spent some time wandering around Yui-cho.

Yui was a station on the Tokaido Road and is famous for sakura-ebi.

That’s about it.

The town isn’t very big. One of its two elementary schools only has 48 children.

The town gates with sakura-ebi on top.

An alley.

The spillways go directly into the sea.

A sakura-ebi shop.

A hill above a mikan grove.

You could feel a cool sea breeze from up here.

You can also see the modern Tokaido Expressway.

Sometimes I forget that I live near the ocean, because I don’t necessarily see it everyday.

The ruins of a house

A bamboo grove.

The remains of pine trees.

A beautifully painted house.
